Please join us for our next Youth Voter Registration Committee meeting on Saturday, January 20. This will be a time to get together and decide how and what we'll be doing to register as many people as we possibly can before the November 2018 election. We will also take the time to discuss recent conversations with Saint Paul Public Schools about partnering in the coming year (a general update is included below for those who cannot join us on Saturday).
Partnering with Teachers in Saint Paul Public Schools
Diggitt McLaughlin of our Committee met with Rebecca Biel, SPPS Social Studies Coordinator on January 9 to discuss registering eligible high school seniors in the city's public schools for the 2018 election. Rebecca will direct the 20 teachers of senior-level social studies and economics to facilitate registration. There is a March 2 teachers' meeting that we hope a committee member can attend in order to meet with these teachers and discuss what more we can do in their classrooms in addition to registration. We are working towards establishing a long term relationship with them.
Diggitt and Rebecca also discussed internships and an essay contest, which outside groups such as Minnesota Civic Youth and Minnesota's Historical Society currently work on.
