Registration

This event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required for planning purposes. This event will be especially helpful for new immigrants, young voters, and Saint Paul residents who want your voices and concerns to be heard in governance.

Please join us for "Citizenship Tools: Be Informed, Be Involved, Vote" on Saturday, February 25 for an overview of Federal, State and City Government as well as an opportunity to meet and question actual elected officials.

The day starts with check-in from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. Coffee and breakfast items will be provided during check-in and throughout the morning.

After a brief welcome from the office of the Secretary of State at 9:00 a.m., Metropolitan State University Political Science Professor Matthew Filner will walk through the nuts and bolts of citizenship.  You will learn about the process of influencing public policy, being an active “constituent” and even running for public office.  You will also learn how the federalist system works and what levels of government are most important for each area of public policy.

Following the presentation, you will be seated at tables with elected officials. You will be given about 20 minutes to exchange questions, answers and comments with each official. Then, the officials will move to another table, ensuring everyone has a chance to meet each official during the remaining hour. We have confirmed that Mary Vanderwert (School Board Member), Chris Tolbert and Rebecca Noecker (City Council Members) will be in attendance. Additional elected officials through the state level have been invited.
