This event is free and open to the public. This event will be especially helpful for new immigrants, young voters, and Saint Paul residents who want your voices and concerns to be heard in governance.

Join our free workshop with educational opportunities, a chance to meet elected officials, and an introduction of useful tools to participate in local, state and national government. At this event, you will get an overview of all governmental levels as well as an opportunity to meet and question actual elected officials.

9:00-9:30 Registration and refreshments

9:30-9:40 Welcome

9:40-10:40 Metropolitan State University Political Science Professor Matthew Filner will walk through the process of voting, influencing public policy, being an active “constituent” and even running for public office. 

10:40-10:50 Introduction of local elected officials and what they do

10:50–11:30 Meet and greet with elected officials—Toni Carter (County Board), John Brodrick (School Board), Jane Prince (City Council), and Rep. Carlos Mariani (Minnesota House). You are encouraged to spend some time getting to know them and to ask them how you can make your voice heard in their decision making.
